Following a four-day inauguration festival last weekend, the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center in Athens, Greece, has revealed a list of free events taking place at the visitors' center before the venue itself becomes fully operational in 2017.

Exhibition: "Greek Light and Colour in Panayiotis Tetsis's Painting"

On now through July 31, the center is hosting an exhibition in collaboration with the National Gallery of Greece featuring 35 paintings by Panayotis Tetsis, described as "one of Modern Greece's greatest, most creative, authentic, and perhaps, most importantly, modest artists." Works on show include the Impressionist piece "Street Market" as well as some of the late artist's last paintings.

Kid-friendly workshops

The center has a wide range of free workshops for children planned for July. A Μaculelê (Afro-Brazilian) dance class will be held on July 5 for ages 8-15, and the center is also offering yoga workshops for children 6-12, with a separate adult class on Mondays throughout July.

The "An Escape into the Blue" series will offer two painting workshops for younger and older children. During "Star Hunt at the Blue Sky" and "A Long Dive into the Cool Blue," participants will use inspiration from David Hockney and Vincent Van Gogh to create their own self-portraits.

Music and movies

On July 2, an outdoor concert -- "Con Alma | Latin Jazz Roots" -- will be performed by pianist Dimitris Kalantzis and his group in collaboration with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra. The concert marks the end of the "Jazz & Strings" series at the SNFCC. The Greek National Opera's leading soloists will also perform a selection of arias and duets from their repertoire at a gala on July 3 in celebration of their relocation to the new premises in the coming months.

As part of the "Music Escapades: the Dream Makers series," musicians such as Prins Obi and Nalyssa Green will be performing on Thursdays throughout July, and a screening of "Duck Soup" (1933) on July 8 will mark the first of the weekly "Park your Cinema" outdoor movie nights at the center.
