Valentino has confirmed the news that Maria Grazia Chiuri is leaving the design house reports WWD.
The company revealed that the designer is “to pursue a new professional experience,” which many believe involves a move to Dior — and insiders expect the French luxury house to make an announcement shortly.
Her departure now leaves Pierpaolo Piccioli as sole creative director.
Chiuri is leaving after 17 years with the brand and eight in her role as co-creative director alongside Piccioli, with whom she had previously worked with for 10 years at Fendi.
The duo, who presented their last collection together at the Valentino couture show in Paris on Wednesday evening, were chosen by Valentino Garavani to work on the accessories category of the brand, before being promoted to creative directors in 2008.
After a partnership lasting 25 years the pair commented in a statement that they are parting to continue their “artistic paths in an individual way,” with Valentino’s CEO Stefano Sassi adding, “Everything achieved in these years would have been impossible without Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli’s talent, determination and vision that together have contributed into making Valentino one of the most successful fashion companies.”
“A new and exciting phase for the brand begins under the creative leadership of Pierpaolo Piccioli. The brand is strongly determined to continue its affirmation and development process accomplished in the past years.”
