The designers selected for this year's 'Headonism' exhibition have been revealed by the British Fashion Council (BFC).
Two new milliners, Laura Apsit Livens and The Season Hats, will join existing Headonism designers Harvy Santos and Sophie Beale in displaying their Spring / Summer 2017 collections during London Fashion Week this fall.
The BFC designer support initiative celebrates the new wave of emerging British hat designers, allowing them to showcase their pieces during Fashion Week, while also receiving mentorship and business support throughout the year.
Newcomer Laura Apsit Livens is a London College of Fashion graduate making a name for herself thanks to collaborations with brands including Bally Swiss. Known for her couture pieces fusing modern design with artisan techniques, each of her designs is blocked and stitched entirely by hand without the use of any machinery. Her previous clients include the singers Paloma Faith, Rita Ora and Princess Beatrice, and her stockists include the upmarket Fenwick of Bond Street and The Shop at Bluebird, London.
The second addition to this year's list is Season Hats, founded by womenswear designer Paul Stafford and Selina Horshi. The brand's innovative collections focus on being both playful and wearable, with a signature range of satin folding hats crafted using Chinese paper folding techniques. The Season Hats are stocked in Alan Journo in Milan, and Fenwick of Bond Street.
The two new designers join ex-professional ballet dancer Harvy Santos, whose playful pieces are entirely handmade in his London studio, and Sophie Beale, whose work was selected from over 100 milliners to join a celebration of Britain's finest millinery in association with the Olympics.
"Millinery is a real craft, and Headonism always champions technically creative and accomplished designers," said the BFC's Chief Executive Caroline Rush. She sits on the Headonism selection panel alongside the BFC's Anna Orsini, Stephen Jones Millinery Press Manager Annika Lievesley, Fashion Editor of The Hat Magazine Carole Denford, Stylist Grace Woodward, Fenwick Brand Communications chief Leo Fenwick and hat designer Stephen Jones, among others.
London Fashion Week will run from September 16-20. For more information see:
